Farewell, Rhysz. We are going to miss you very much.

Once inscribed in the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi: "Gnothi Seauton" (Know Thyself) -Anonymous

"Those who are enslaved to their sects are not merely devoid of all sound knowledge, but they will not even stop to learn." -Claudius Galen

"Constant Vigilance!" -Mad Eye Moody (of Harry Potter fame.)

New news about my beloved ARNG. Brigadier General William L. Stoppel will be serving as the Chief of Staff for the Army National Guard.
Always Ready, Always There.
375 years and going strong.

President Obama delivered the State of the Union address. Happily, some in Congress participated in a second annual "date night" and mixed up the seating so there was no left and right, but rather one large group mixed together. I'm pleased that our Senator Shelby participated.
It was a great speech that informed our folks as to where we are and where we want to go, and he outlined several plans that will help to get us there.
At the top of my faves are his SOTU speech and his Kansas City speech.

Heck of a battle going on in FL between the Republican candidates. This is an important vote and the eyes of the country are on FL as they choose their Republican candidate.

Blackout day was a great success! The petitions and black out protests certainly caught the attention of those in Congress. They have decided to set aside those hot potatoes legislation.
We sill watching closely. Check out OPEN and ACTA. The battle to protect honest users from being part of any collateral damage is not over.

More news: The Wisconsin voters who wanted a recall got 1 million signatures, more than twice as required, on the petitions.

This is what democracy looks like, too. : )

Also in my faves is a clip from the tv show West Wing. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and watch the whole series.
President Bartlett (Dem) and Senator Vinick (Repub who running for Pres) share some thoughts that would do many folks a world of good to heed for themselves.

Tensions are still high concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has taken a small step back and has said it will not block the strait. The USS Abraham Lincoln, on its regular schedule, transverse the strait without incident, as have British and French war ships.
As for some of our other folks in the Middle East, there are 15,000 of our troops and their equipment in Iraq. 15,000 of our troops and their equipment in Kuwait (they rolled out of Iraq not long ago.) Two aircraft carrier groups have been in the area near the strait, along with some of our subs, as they patrol the waters.
The US Navy has rescued Iranian fishing vessels and crew upon three recent occasions. Our Air Force is deployed at various friendly sites in the Middle East. US Troops and ships have been deployed to Israel for a joint exercise and the plans are to leave our troops in Israel afterwards. Please remember our folks in the military. The greatest risk we face right now is for something to get out of hand out there. May cooler heads prevail while all these military forces move in close proximity to one another.

Recently read about the appalling behavior of the Ukrainian government. They are killing stray dogs to "tidy" up their country before the big football matches in June. Faved a vid about this issue. I also recommend you check out the news. Here's one source: France 24 (online), 13/01/2012 / UKRAINE
Ukraine's stray dogs 'sacrificed' for Euro 2012.

We All Occupy (online) provides a list of the cities participating in the protests in the US. Some of the fine folks I sub to are participating in Occupy and are posting vids about what's happening in their town. Also, for great on the ground coverage at OWS and other Occupies, be sure to check out Tim Pool at The Other 99.

*******************************************

Please check out 2009IranRevolution for up to date vids coming out out Iran, that are posted by a brave soul who is showing the us what the Iranian government would not want the rest of the world to see.

The world is watching (well part of it is, for now anyway.)
