About The Philippine Folk Arts Group Retrospective Channel
"...Founded in 1974, the troupe was a special project of Philippine First Lady, Imelda R. Marcos, who sought to bring Philippine artists and culture to the global stage. Famed concernt pianist Van Cliburn, opera star Placido Domingo, and film producer Franco Rossellini were among the international celebrities who attended the troupe's performances in New York. The group also participated in art and cultural festivals in the US and Canada including the Cannes International Film Festival in 1980. In support of Filipino communities all over the United States, the Philippine Folk Arts Theater Group also performed at Filipino-American community events, universities, schools, and trade shows sponsored by department store chains as Bloomingdales, Macys, Hess, and Gimbels..."
