I'd say the commentators are way off here. The hit was unsportsmanlike but not malicious. There's no elbow, there's no jumping to the tackle, player being tackled is not facing the board... The only thing is that it's a bit early. If Pominville already had had the puck he would've been more ready...

Pique was 5m AHEAD of Ronaldo and still he got passed by Cristiano even with Ronaldo dribbling the ball while running. Pique was lucky Cristiano kind of "lost the ball between his legs. For a centre back Pique is very good and confident with the ball but pace is his greatest weakness for god's sake.
