[Please read] Stanwyck is ready to explode! View Barbara in choice clips from the rarely-screened 1935 drama "The Woman In Red." She plays Shelby Wyatt (nee Barret), a professional horse rider who falls in love with polo playboy Johnny Wyatt (Gene Raymond). She marries him and into a family of snobs, the Wyatts. Trite, conventional love scenes between Shelby and Johnny are intermittently laced with venom courtesy of jealous Nicko (Genevieve Tobin), a snooty widow (and one-time employer of Shelby) with the hots for Johnny.

Just when you think Barbara is skating through the scenes, the ice cracks--a dramatic tragedy involving her friend Gene Fairchild (John Eldredge) occurs; and, in response to a call for justice, she flames on like only Barbara Stanwyck can.

Side note: fans of Jeanette MacDonald will be amused by her future husband Gene Raymond's singing in this film.
