Peoples Grocery is a community-based nonprofit organization, founded in 2003, that addresses health disparities in the inner city community of West Oakland stemming from a lack of access to and knowledge of healthy, fresh foods. With a goal of addressing local health and nutritional needs while providing employment and training opportunities for low-income residents and supporting regional agriculture, Peoples Grocerys mission is to build a local food system that can improve the health and economy of the West Oakland community. Promoting food justice - the belief that all people, regardless of social and economic constraints, have the right to healthy and high quality foods - Peoples Grocery develops enterprises and projects that increase access to fresh foods, provide nutrition education, promote urban agriculture and create local jobs.

Schools
