@thejustnosy, you are absolutely right.... It's the fear of the unknown, the isolation... and then when he appears, the reality is even creepier than you imagined, because it plays with your brain - even as he does his "poor Pew" routine, he's ready to strike like a snake.

I just watched the whole series again, beginning to end, and cannot stop laughing at this. Learned a lot of British trivia, too, such as what is Camberwick Green and the meaning and possible derivations of "nonce." Every second of this is hilarious.

patrickangus, I think Billy Bones' accent is Scottish thickened with drink. It is not Oliver Reed's normal English accent, but it is certainly a memorable creative choice!

The full concert version was fantastic with the audience in near hysterics of delight (or terror, depending on the kids). I'd have loved to have been there!

Lee, I believe it was called "Devil's Treasure" in the UK - very puzzling, since the book was published as "Treasure Island" and has never been known by another title, and every other version has kept the title - and this version is particularly faithful to the book. Did someone think it sounded...

MrAop2 - You are right; it IS the HMS Bounty. I built a Revell-kit model of it when I was a kid - and toured ithe actual ship when it was docked in San Diego. Bounty or Hispaniola, I LOVE the ship, but especially as the Hispaniola. And I much prefer the Hispaniola's captain!
