About this user

Paul MacGregor was born in the backwoods of Ontario Canada where he was orphaned; sitting on a Canadian freeway (the 401) he was taken in by a kindly old woman he called Nanny; unfortunately she had to give him up and he was almost immediately taken in by a roving pack of wolves. Learning at a young age that the pack ate their young Paul was faced with the decision to be eaten or leave. After only losing some none important fleshy parts he decided that maybe a quick departure was in his best interest.
After stowing away on a coal barge sailing across Lake Superior and entering Lake Michigan he found himself in Chicago, IL.
At this point he was forced to deliver milk for Bowmen Dairy in Cabrini Green housing project where he soon learned the meaning of the "BLUES"
At the tender age of twelve he picked up his first musical instrument a Tesco Guitar with a broken headstock. Since it could only support four strings before snapping the headstock off after being glued; he decided that maybe he should switch to Bass in keeping with the four string scenario.
During his formative years Paul would go down to Racine and Loomis streets and sit in with the predominately Black Blues clubs local musicians; with the assortment of drunks; druggies and hookers as an audience.
He was lucky enough to be taken under the wing of old bluesman Percy Love; a kindly old gentleman that even though he was a complete alcoholic / Drug addicted individual helped Paul learn the concept of the blues. In other words he dragged Paul through the meat shredder and threw him into another pack of wolves who by this time Paul had learned to hold his own with.Paul opened his own club "the Black Rose" in Richton Park;Il at that time too.
In a short time Paul became known for his nimble fingers and quick riffs; something not really needed in a blues bass player. Al Cooper one of his friends and mentors suggested he should explore other musical creative avenues before throwing his ass out of the group they were in together.
At this time Cream; Hendrix and the San Francisco wave was hitting and Paul knew their was a place for him somewhere in the sun.
Traveling across the country Paul found himself in the Haight-Ashbury district in San Francisco where a long haired bass player named Cassidy helped him fine tuned his bass playing and writing abilities. Although this episode improved Paul's playing abilities he also suffered from excess's of the free life style expounded by the social climate of that era. His buddy Willie Kirk who worked behind the counter at the SouthGate pharmacy fueled his need for speed and soon Paul was spiraling downward into the abyss of musical excess.
With his tail between his legs after a stint at the Betty Ford clinic Paul came back home to Chicago. Hooking up with some locals he was directed to the half dead city of Hammond Indiana; where there were store fronts a plenty for rent and a musicians paradise on State Street.
Paul and his band mates went out looking for this mysterious city and found that all the streets went one way; or so it seemed. Anyhow they meet Herman Hess and he (your not going to believe this but its true) Rented them an old abandoned Drug store. Soon this new incarnation was playing the local circuit and rakin in the cash; well for a musician is was enough. RAVN; as the group was known played all the big clubs downtown and in northwest Indiana; Mothers; Rush Up; Beginnings. Their was no shortage of jobs or good times; unfortunately Paul had a run in with one to many good times and it was off to the clinic for him again.
Next on the list was a bloke named Dennis Blanford AKA B. Kuzma who envisioned himself the next Pete Townshed; but to his credit he had the writing and guitar playing abilities to back up his belief.
And as before the clubs were the livelihood of this poor bass player.
Two albums and a thousand gigs later Dennis fell under the curse of demon alcohol and went off to play three chord progressions on the North side of Chicago; Steve Clemens; the drummer and Paul's close friend took off with Pat Travers and ended up stuck in California; moved to Nevada and ended up playing in a cover band on the Las Vegas strip of all places.
Meanwhile Paul was stuck in Hammond Indiana; thinking the elements might get him someday Paul decided to buy a house; put down roots; try to lead a normal life; Wrong move Paul. Bad thing about the music addiction; its lifelong and only screws up everything else you try to do.
