I think that's the real question behind Halo:Reach... It's easy to fight, to give it all, for a clear victory, something to be a part of, a Hero. But could you accept death, your duty done? Could you simply sit and wait for the end, having passed the torch to others?

@edgartj17 The Covenant as a force disbanded (civil war, the prophets dead, the Elites going their own way, etc) Reach as a planet was terraformed and made habitable again... so while the Human Covenant war ended in 2552, Reach was fit for life only in 2589. (anyway, that's what Halopedia says)
