It is unfortunate Kauai doesn't have protection from hurricanes. Hawaii Island and Maui have huge volcanoes that steal moisture and make it into snow, and they deflect more moisture into the jet stream. The other islands are sheltered as they are close behind. Only Kauai is hurricane...
