Thanks to Herb Alpert great talents like Wes were able to get some exposure to the masses.

Liza was actually very cute at that age and she had her mothers voice for sure. Its great that most musicians and singers were color blind and were way ahead of the rest of society in their respect for mino...

@thesmellycatjazz I play along with Wes all the time and try to imitate his octave work....very difficult for sure...but the more I do it, the better it gets...very uplifting to play along with his cd's...its helped me develop mu own improvisational abilities....long road and probably will never ...

he's got a big loop at the top...goes from flat to upright with that loop move....works when he's on.

Exceptional technical ability yes....greatest guitarist....I dont think so....there is NO greatest guitarist....except maybe Wes Montgomery.

ok....thats certainly one way to learn some guitar 'tricks'.....me i like to jam with jazz guitar greats (Wes et al) and listen to the sounds and tempos they are doing and they get engrained in my music awareness that way....both work....though I dont name these techniques like arpeggio #47.........

@toejam498 I hate this form of music....any putz who knows 2 chords and has a friend who can pick some strings thinks this is some great form of expression.....what a bunch of crap! Jazz blues = real

@jbowden66 Whomever 'they' are....they are quite deceived by their own egos....No one surpasses Wes for his creativity and style...I dont care if 'They' think they are more technical or whatever...he was and will always be the best.....sheer joy to hear!

HR was wonderful for sure and definitely ranked among the greats like Johnny Smith et al. So much feeling in his renditions......he was blessed, as we were to enjoy him.

what a nice lively version and gives HR a chance to really express his talents from funky to cool smooth jazz licks to jazz blues too......like fine wine.

and he's getting great marks from Howard about his playing.....which was excellent for sure....especially at the tender age of 17.......where are you today and who do you go by???
