A true PPV caliber match avaliable on free(sort of) TV. And a blow off to a classic feud. An absolute match for the ages here.

@JackReeve -This was before that happened. The whole "Dudes with Attitudes" was that summer or summer of 1990. This was in February of 1990. This card occured(I believe) on 2-6-90) and was promoting Wrestlewar 90 which we are comming up on the anniversary of since that was 2-25-90.

@kingadalou -shot clock was expirimental form the 1982-83 through the 1984-85 seasons Meaning it was used for the regular season but not the NCAA tournament. Full use came in 1985-86 for all games including the NCAA tournament. The tree point shot became used full time in 1986-87

And Derrick Smith would have his son win a national title with Duke in 2010. Sadly he woudn't be here to see it as he died much too young a few years earlier.

@observer9670 -actually from 1991-1993 it was played 3 striaght years in a dome stadium. 1991 was the Hoosier Dome, 92 was in Minneapolis at the Metrodome and 1993 was in the Superdome .

Funny thing here in the World Tag Team title match the Fabulous Freebirds had already lost the title to the Steiner Brothers at a TV taping designed for airing after this PPV

Amazing performance Curt Henning put on here as he was suffering from a severe back injury that would take him out of commission for a good long time after this match.

If Cleveland had held on to win they would have hosted the AFCtitle game due to New England being the Wild Card team, who in those days, could never hot the conference title game. Now the #5 seed can host the title game if the #5 and #6 seeds each make the conference title game.

The fact that this ran on network television during Prime Time definitley helped the numbers. The fact that this also ran during sweeps month shows that NBC had high hopes for this prime time special and it did not disappoint.

Show was taped in December of 1986 and aired on 1-3-87. First SNME I saw. And to be honest that was bhecause there was nothing else on TV at 10:35 PM on Saturday night as my small hometown did not have cable then.

What Pat O'Brioen is refering to in the open is that since the previous May Minneapolis/St Paul had the Stanley Cup Finals, The US Open Golf championship, the World Series, and the Super Bowl all in an 11 month span including the Final 4 in early April.

IIRC this was a greatly shortned show due to the Womens national semi-finals runnig very long that day. CBS had the Womens national semis and finals and from 1991-1995 they ran a Sat-Sun format

@kgrueschowjr2009 -Yes it happened that way. It set up the Flair-Funk feud for the remainder of 1989. It was one of the best years ever for WCW as these wrestlers gave some of the greatest matches ever seen in any wrestling organization with brilliant storytelling all the way through.

@sebastianhoward65 -no 4 did not have Hogan vs warrior. That was 6 WM4 had ther world title tournament to fill the vaccancy after the "screwjob" on the MAin Event on NBC in primetime back in Feb. Warrior wrestled Hercules onb this card. He was an up and commer in the WWF at this time.
