PATRICK + GIOVANNI = FRIENDSHIP
For 17 years, Patrick and Giovanni have celebrated and sorrowed together, supporting each other in times of anguish and reveling in times of joy. "Were each others best friend," says Patrick. Still, Giovanni rejected Patricks marriage proposals for a year, holding out for the traditional bended knee and offered ring before agreeing. Their multiple weddings serve as a history of the slow initiation of marriage equality first in Toronto, then Vermont, and most recently Massachusetts and New Jersy. The couple hopes to legally marry in New York next. Marriage equality would mean that a wedding ceremony performed in any state would be recognized as legally binding in all states and would confer over 1,500 federal rights and privileges.
