the original had more of a gritty realism to it, this new style makes it look like every other modern anime. I don't feel the horror I did with the old one. That one villain with the poofy hair looked literally like dracula, and had a creepy raspy voice.

Things missed in translation. "we must save cancer with love". Cancer of course being the name of the city where the main character turned monster grew up. Why would the writer or the people of this universe name a city that is beyond me.
