@FloMoshun It's basically down to the angle that the camera is in the telescope. There's no 'up' in space so it doesn't really matter what way up anything is - given that a telescope's image is upside's down anyway.

@GermanPainter Airbrush thinners exist but they're usually isopropyl alcohol. Acetone will work - easily gotten in Nail Varnish Remover form.

@CutByAngels That's planetary tables and not the planesphere itself and the "first of the month" RA's will not help anyone pick out a planet to any usefulness. If you're such a beginner where you look up and not know you're looking at a planet and indeed which one these tables will not help you, ...

It really is amazing just how ignorant people are. Venus rotates the sun so it can be on either side of the sun. So if it's on the left then it appears at dusk.

@Nibiru128 It's that shape because of the poor optics, see an object like this in a real telescope and you'll see it's round (or more specifically, Oblately spherical). it's venus, visible at the minute in Scotland from the early hours to sunrise, which is different to Jupiter which at the minute...

Planets don't appear on skymaps which is why these objects aren't on them. Download Stellarium and stop being a ignorant moron.

It expands because the focus is wavering, the colour changes because your lenses are crap and it "moves if you look at it lone enough" because the earth is rotating.

With all the 6" Newtonian reflectors in the world and Patrick Moore on the telly I pretty sure we'd have a decent astro-photography session on this on record.

Half of these are just blurred up pictures of Venus, some are actually PST images of our own sun.
