These videos were taken during the renovations at the Pardee-Morris House in the summer of 2009. These renovations included ( but are not limited to) buttressing the house supports by installing new lally columns; consolidating wiring; replacing burst pipes, restoring plumbing to the house and replacing commode; fixing a wall that had deteriorated to the point that it was pulling away from the house, and repairing interior walls on 2 levels; removal of debris from the basements; replacing sump pump with 2 new pumps; removal of Ivy; cutting shrubs down to code near the street corner, and elsewhere; painting of the exterior of the house; removal of cracked cast-iron radiators; replacment of 30+ window panes smashed by vandals, in some cases with historic glass recovered from the barn; replacement of roof caps on barns; Removal of corroded gutters and downspouts; putting exterior lights on a timer and replacing outdoor bulbs with "green" florescents; Installing new border planks in the herb garden; boarding up the cellar hatchway (to prevent flooding); Repairing all holes that could permit the entry of animals; Replacment of several cedar shakes on the roof; Removal of obsolete and unusable appliances; repairing swollen doors so they could be opened; painting all doors, etc.
This youtube channel, like the renovation project, is a work in progress. These videos are not meant to represent the entire renovation project, but are intended to give interested parties a good idea of what is happening on the grounds. It will be updated periodically as the project progresses. Any questions about these videos can be addressed to Benjamin Breton at education@newhavenmuseum.org. The new management at the New Haven Museum looks forward to showing a continued presence at the house, and thanks the neighbors and our members for all their help and support.
