A singer named Vernon Dalhart sold a lot of records of this through the 1920s. He was immensely popular in his day. He also recorded The Prisoner's Song ("...if I had the wings of an angel ....").

I heard them on "A Prairie Home Companion" rerun just before Thanksgiving 2010 and was just bowled over with the sisters. That was also as good of bullfiddle slapping and rhythm guitar playing as I have ever heard.
