Spin Control is the only DSTC function that can be turned off on an XC90. Traction Control, Active Yaw Control, and Roll Stability Control cannot be turned off. Everyone I know of that has owned both a Subaru and a Volvo says that there is no comparison in how they drive. The Volvo is far superior.

Nice maneuvering starting as 7:55. The you tube video "Subaru AWD vs everyone else" says an XC90 can't possibly do this well.

@Pagelos You are exactly right about your Haldex descriptions. There are numerous youtube videos of XC60s--as well as XC90s & XC70s--with their AWDs performing in a very impressive manner--including Haldex 3 versions. Subaru partisans just seem to ignore this evidence. I won't dis Subaru's excell...

Looks like your Spin Control is pulling the throttle back. Push your DSTC button one time to turn off the Spin Control. Volvo recommends doing it in deep snow and deep sand--and I would add very steep hills too.

Probably not Haldex. DSTC Spin Control more likely.

@chemixaL You're spot on. And I think the Land Cruiser costs about $20,000 more in the U.S. (low $40's compared to low $60's). That's a lot of off-road technology to pay for if you don't need it.

@Serveck Subaru partisans are rightly proud of their AWDs, but it seems some of their videos try to make you think it's invincible and that all other AWDs are junk. So when I see a stuck Subaru video, I can't resist making a comment.

@fall0of0reach Subaru owners are rightly proud of their AWD system. But they also do a lot of mocking of other AWD drive cars on youtube videos--sometimes unjustly. So I like to kid a little when I see a stuck-subaru video.
