Maria Fernandes is a dutch fado performer with traditional accompaniment. She introduces the programme details in the Dutch language, while the whole of her performance is a treat on a surprising musical journey through Portugal.
After graduation at the Academy for Music in Hilversum, I decided to pack my bags and to depart to Portugal for a musical discovery journey through the land of fado. I experienced the musical beauty not only of Lisbon, the Alentjo and the Algarve, but also the tonal atmosphere of northern Portugal.
About the musicians: Jeroen Becx studied guitar at the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam and in Vercelli, Italy. He graduated in 1985 as performing musician. He played the Portuguese guitarra invarious Fado groups and he made Fado ar- rangements for the Ricciotti Ensemble.
Hans van Gelderen graduated in 1991 and achieved the UM Certificate Classical Guitar atthe Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam. Since 1996 Hans has been a member of various Fado-ensembles. These ensembles released numerous cd's, which feature a number of compositions made by Hans.
Remus Aussen plays the 4-, 5-, and 6-strings base guitars with the Jazz-Rock Formation Jalafuro and the all-round band Sunset Boule- vard. As double base player he is engaged with the Gipsy Orchestra Scala and Hot Club du Nord. Fado and Cuban music was perfor- med by Remus with the group La Trenza
