@tiggerfan1968 Yes, it's certainly worth remembering Jane Darwell, one of the great character actresses of the '30s & '40s and an Oscar winner for The Grapes Of Wrath (she actually began her career in 1913 in silent films). Some of her other notable films include Little Miss Broadway (with Shirle...

As for the embellishments, it's really a matter of personal opinion. Either you like them or you don't. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with what she did here; in fact, it was exciting. There were only a few insertions, and they were well within the spirit & meaning of the aria. ...

I believe there may be great voices out there, but they will never be heard because opera today is about everything else but the voice - good looks, weird stagings, strange new productions, etc. Back in the golden age, you could get 3 or 4 all time greats in a single opera, multiple times a week!...

This is pretty bad. Grigolo appears to be just another one of the many good looking singers today with mediocre (at best) voices. The strain on the last note, with his head shaking as he tried to hold it, was painful to watch and listen to. But this is what opera is today, mediocre singers with...

What can you say after a performance like that? Nucci is one ofthe greatest, if not the greatest, Rigoletto of all time. He always thrills, and never disappoints. He has never really gotten his due, and I hope that one day he will be named alongside Warren, Merrill, Milnes, etc., as one of the...

I don't know why he is so under appreciated and rarely named with the greats. I do know he is a beloved star at La Scala. They had a gala concert in honor of his 30th anniversary there, about 4 years ago. He sang baritone arias from just about every opera he ever sung there, and sounded amazing....

I saw Frank live in Oct. 1987, at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, NY. I remember him singing this and how incredibly moving and riveting it was. About 20,000 of us sat motionless, completely enthralled by what was happening on stage. Many were moved to tears, and the applause was explosive. I...
