I've noticed that Tom's songs quite often dwell on the spiritual side of life. It seems as though he knows that Jesus is really nearby and watching us all, but he doesn't want to believe it because that might cause him to give up his present way of life. Most people are simply afraid to let go....

"Profane" is a real word in the real dictionary about a real subject that actually exists. This video of Tom Waits in profane. Tom is a truly extraordinary singer-songwriter who has some unbelievably good works to his credit--he didn't have to do this.

Whoever arranges the instrumentation on Tom's songs is a rare master. Even the music itself grips my heart and my emotions and reaches deep inside me. Let alone Tom's voice and the way he uses it. It's the perfect match.
