Biography:
Photography was one of my dreams that, fortunately, has come true.
My journey began at Ar.Co where I studied photography and, afterward s, as a professional photographer, in the Portuguese newspaper, DN. However, Ive always felt unfulfilled.
I found it not very attractive to photograph politics, entrepreneurs and other public personalities with whom I had, most of the times, no sympathy at all.
Then, I worked in advertising, which offered me great human experiences and accounted for professional enrichment, although the recollection of those days still reveals a mismatch between my ideals and the ones that must guide professionals of that field.
I needed to find out what really interested me and what would actually fit my profile.
It was when I left to discover the world.
I spent the 90s traveling around, approximately, two hundred and four (204) countries(all), performing photography reportage's and deepening unforgettable human experiences. I used to come to Portugal once in a while to publish work, catch up with family and friends and lecturing photography courses.
From the many experiences that have marked me, the most significant were living among indigenous tribes, photographing in the middle of a war scenario, visiting His Holiness the Dalai Lama, sleeping inside the Amazon rain forest, tasting the magic of Machu Pichu and feeling the peace of Laos.
In fact, from all places Ive been to, those who awed me most were Tibet, Laos, Vanuatu, India and the Amazon.
The Amazon rain forest was, perhaps, the most interesting paradise Ive visited up to now. From that rich experience emerged this photography book and also the summary of my odyssey at the Amazon end, in the books last pages.
