Youtube definetly removes videos, all the time. Mostly when videos hit a million views. They can be funny, they can be political or just musical. But they are removed.

Earlier they would leave a broken link so that you at least remembered what video it was, now there's just an empty spot left. As it never existed. I suggest everyone to move to an other site like Liveleak for news and others for music/fun.
