Skyrim: Shadow Fade Distance

I've been tweaking the shadows in Skyrim but cannot figure out how to to keep them from fading into view.

Suggestions?

set fShadowDistance to 8000.0000 (this is the default distance when you pick Ultra settings, dunno if a higher value works but you can try. i'm using 2500.0000)

the tradeoff is some performance hit and blockier shadows.
