It's a shame these movies did not receive the recognition that Berkeley's later work for WB did. One reason might be that some of Cantor's bits would be considered un-PC in this day and age. But those chorus girls were something to behold!

Apparently this was commissioned by the Howdy Doody producers, but Buffalo Bob Smith hated it. and it was never broadcast on the show. It was considered lost until a copy was recently found in the Library of Congress. Frankly, this is a lot better than the show was.

This was good work compared to some of the 1968 TV cartoon fare from HB, DePatie-Freling and others. Too bad, it maybe could have kept Terrytoons open a little longer.

Good catch. The older Toshiba's were great sets. If you know how to solder, you should resolder the pins on the vertical IC, the horizontal drive transformer and any other solder joint that looks stressed. Not much else goes wrong with them.

@LovingScrubbies I think because the animated effects were not effective visually and done strictly as a cost savings measure by Columbia (probably utilizing their cartoon animation division). The TV effects, especially those done by Thol (SI) Simonson were very well done for that time.

Ah, I watched S.P. back in the day. I don't think it was all that bad, especially compared to the crap passing for animation today.

Howard Morris had such a long career and did many different things; but in his later years he was puzzled that he was remembered mostly for his Ernest T. Bass character.

@brabon1 He absolutely did! Jay's shows had layers of satire and jokes so that kids could enjoy on their level, and adults can also enjoy the satire on their level. And those who watch the shows when they become adults can catch a lot of the jokes that went over their heads when they were kids.

As clowns go, this one isn't very scary.
