In 2007, Chicago native Robert Bock wrote and recorded a solo album, "Study Natural Law" under the guise "Of The Opera" and the seeds for what would become one of the most intriguing and hard to classify electronic acts were planted. The album, for the most part, floated under the public's radar, due partially to the floundering label that released it and partially due to the challenges Bock faced transforming the dynamically layered atmospheric soundscapes to a live setting. Eventually Bock came across Matthew Tenney, a fellow Chicagoan that helped him build a truly unique live show comprising everything from live drums and bass to an engaging lighting rig to a deluge of guitars and synthesizers.
Over the course of the next few years, the duo showcased for an array of record labels, went through innumerable lineup changes, feuded to be let go from their former record label, performed at SXSW in Austin, and became a staple at Chicago's renown venue Metro. But as life would have it, they eventually hit their glass ceiling in Chicago and sought solace, both creatively and personally, in Boston and Brooklyn.
After spending six months playing shows in Manhattan's infamous Lower East Side scene and Boston's burgeoning college scene, the duo have realigned their focus yet again. In the spring of 2010, Of The Opera will release a 5 song EP that catalogues their journey from an idea in the back of Robert Bock's mind to a compelling and soaring Brooklyn based band determined to stand resolute in a city infamous for making and breaking some of the biggest musicians in the world.
