Yes, i know the USAF used cannon pylons on early F-4 models to fight against the Migs on Vietnam. Also the USAF was the only branch of the US Armed Forces to use the Phantom E which already had a built in cannon. But by the time the E arrived on Indochina the missiles avaliable were much more reliable (Sidewinder H and Sparrow E-2) and the need of a cannon was no longer such a big concern.
