I'm an absolute Zappa fan from way back - don't ask how far :) Been playing drums for a while now (again - don't ask :) but never had lessons or learnt rudiments - my tempo is crap and well, sometimes I stuff up majorly! Haha!! I have a damn good time tho! =)
For anyone interested in "Frankenkit" it is comprised of a DT Express III spliced with a DT Explorer and has some 'custom built' drum trigger pads with Tama mesh heads - they give a very nice feel in comparison to the rubber pads. Both types lose an awful lot of the nuances that you get with an acoustic kit tho.
The DT Express III runs 6 toms, bass, piccolo snare and hi-hat. The DT Explorer runs 5 cymbals, the 2 lowest toms and the full-size snare.
