On August 27, Hurricane Irene made its second landfall in New York. Rainfall amounts of 6"-10" were very common, causing flash flooding in many areas. Some towns were totally destroyed. Metro-North's Port Jervis Line was a victim of devestation as well. Numerous washouts between Harriman and Suffern were reported, leaving their line out of service for months. This leaves the Middletown & New Jersey without interchange with Norfolk Southern's HO-7. Here we are going to see NYSW train WSX bringing 60 plus cars to interchange at Campbell Hall, which is the detoured NS HO-7. Locations seen are between Warwick and Campbell Hall on the Hudson Secondary Track. Power is NS 5617, NS 5613, NYSW 3014 and NYSW 3018. With a 10 mph speed restriction, it was an easy pace. Enjoy.

It has been SOME time since I've chased a train on the Southern Tier Line. The days of Conrail OIBU's/ BUOI's, and NYS&W 257/258's, 268/259's were my favorites, but have been gone for over a decade. I did chase many NYS&W SU99/100's, but again, it has been SOME time. But on Friday August 5th, 2011, I happened to catch a SPECIAL train on the Southern Tier. You are about to watch the Juniata Special with Bennet Levin's E-8's and 7 GREAT passenger cars that will run on former Erie trackage. This train is running from Hoboken,NJ to Youngstown,OH. The consist included PRR E-8's # 5711 and # 5809, followed by 7 cars, which are Mount Vernon, Frisco Cimarron River, NYC Swift Stream, Frisco Caritas, C&O Chapel Hill, Juniata Warrior Ridge and PRR Pennsylvania 120. NYS&W pilots were picked up at the Port Jervis station for the trip between Port Jervis and Binghamton, which was symboled BH-BX. Locations seen are... Port Jervis, NY, Sparrow Bush, NY, Lackawaxen, PA (shot from NY side), Narrowsburg, NY, Cochecton, NY, Callicoon, NY, Hankins, NY, Long Eddy, NY, and finally, Hancock, NY. I had to call it a day there, but WISHED I had more time for Sturucca Viaduct. The amount of railfans seen on my trip was the most ever I witnessed on the Southern Tier. It was a great day and the weather cooperated well. I hope you enjoy this video....

I happened to see several trains on April 11, 2011 while vacationing in the great state of Florida. I have uploaded a few videos showing this. Here we are about to see another. Only problem on this video is that I don't know the FEC/Norfolk Southern train symbol of this train. The location is Emerson Street, in Jacksonville, at milepost 3 on FEC, north of Bowden yard, with a northbound train. Power is NS 9191, NS 9669, and NS 8826 followed by a lengthy consist. Any help with train symbol is much appreciated (I was thinking some of the consist was from the earlier FEC 226)....
