You can block predators with the riot shield. You just gotta crouch and point the shield towards the explosion. Doesn't work every time, but it can save you. Just like if you have a grenade thrown at you, point the shield towards the grenade and you will survive.

You can survive a predator if you crouch and block the missile explosion like you did with grenades. Doesn't work everytime, but you can survive once in a while.
