Kurt Elling wrote the lyrics. The actual piece was an improvised piano introduction to "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" by Keith Jarrett. It's amazing to think such a polished piece of music as this was actually just improvised, to begin with.

I've heard it said that at the time of this recording, there was a lot of controversy that Rhythm and Blues was full of sexual overtones. Then Screamin' Jay made this recording and removed all doubts!!

@koln1996 What I'm saying is Diana Kral didn't rip off a Brazilian composer.. just performed a song written by someone who was influenced by (ripped off?) Brazilian music. I've listened to, played and studied a lot of Brazilian music. I don't consider myself ripping it off. It's just your choice...
