Now in its 16th year, North by Northeast showcases great new music and music-related films.

For five days and nights every June, music takes over Toronto: live performances, films, the newest music-biz ideas, a digital interactive conference—all within a few km of each other. Next year's event will be held from June 16-20.

In 2009, NXNE reached over 250,000 people over 5 nights of shows at 40 venues spread throughout Toronto's famous club district, free performances at Pearson International Airport and Union Station, outdoor stages at city parks and public spaces, including the festival's outdoor mainstage at Yonge-Dundas Square right downtown.

The Music Festival lineup features 625 performers - some of them very new, exciting artists, and others internationally recognized - like 09's Black Lips, GZA, Broken Social Scene, The Cool Kids, No Age, Crystal Antlers, Dillinger Four, the Sonics, Japanther, and more. Past years' NXNE alumni include Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Dinosaur Jr., Feist, The Dears, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, Pere Ubu, Sufjan Stevens, Patrick Watson, Kathleen Edwards, Ron Sexsmith, K'naan, Sarah Harmer, Sum41 + many, many more...

The NXNE Conference attracts over 2,300 delegates for celebrity interviews and sessions that explore the new realities of the business. Our demo-listening and mentoring panels help emerging artists focus on what's essential to launch and maintain career. Past speakers include Police drummer Stewart Copeland, head Sex Pistol Johnny Rotten, songwriters Steve Earle and Bruce Cockburn, and Stones' ex-guru Andrew Loog Oldham.

The NXNE Film Festival screens the best music movies, from concert classics to the latest indie docs from Rio to Rwanda.

New for 2010, NXNE introduces "NXNEi," a digital interactive media show and conference running earlier in the week of the festival and focused on new technologies and the connections between music and digital media.
