Just a suggestion- to keep the net bag from extending into the water when trying to net the fish, grab the very bottom of the net with one finger then slide your hand up the handle until no part of the net is hanging. As soon as the fish is netted, release your finger and let the net drop down....

Besides the halibut itself possibly causing havoc, someone needed to get ahold of that weight swinging around. Don't know exactly, but the weights I used for Alaska halibut fishing were in the 2 to 5# range. Something that size can inflict a hurt real quick.

Usually fish the Kenai (upper & lower) and the Kasilof.
Kings were slow- got one (about 28#) & wife got one (30#) on the Kasilof. None on the Kenai.
Several reds on the Kenai around Soldotna.
Caught some silvers, but they were on a charter out of Whittier.
