Tom Crean is a composer/performer born in Hartford, CT, living in Northampton, MA. Tom completed degrees at Hartt (B.M. 2002) and Wesleyan (M.A. 2004) having studied with Anthony Braxton, Richard Provost, Ron Kuivila, Randy Johnston, Alvin Lucier, and Neely Bruce among others. Tom is active as an performer on guitar, electronics, dobro, banjo, dulcimer, and bass performing a wide variety of music ranging from rock to classical to jazz to avant-garde. Some of the people he has performed with include Anthony Braxton, John Sinclair, Craig Shepard, Chris Dahlgren, Rane, and Kevin O'Neil. As a composer, Tom's music has been performed by Anthony Braxton, The Flux String Quartet, Kevin Norton, Neely Bruce, and The Wesleyan University Orchestra. Among places Tom has worked include Paris, Wesleyan, Cleveland, New York, Portugal, Belgium, Princeton, Belfast, Glasgow. In late 2008 Tom performed Vivaldi's guitar concerto in D major with orchestra. Tom has remained commited to education throughout his professional career. While attending Wesleyan Tom was a Teaching Assistant for Professors Ron Kuivila and Anthony Braxton. Tom has taught master classes, courses, camps, and private intsruction to beginers through professionals, currently holding a studio of 40 students and being a instructor at Avon Old Farms School.
