Meet Henry, an 18 year old student from Hampshire, who has found a better screening process for sudden cardiac death in black athletes.
He wanted to find a better diagnostic technique for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy – the single biggest cause of sudden adult death in this country – for black athletes after he discovered they were at greater risk of the condition. Henry was inspired by the death of his uncle, who died aged 21 from sudden adult death.
Henry was selected as one of the best young scientists at the National Science + Engineering Competition Finals in 2014. The Competition is now open for entries from 11-18 year olds in the UK: http://www.nsecuk.org.
