Yes my callsign is NR4DW.... My name is Roger and I am an amatuer radio operator (or HAM operator as they call it sometimes)I am a volunteer examiner with the St. Clair Co VE TEAM,I am the net manger for the St. Clair County Alabama EMA/ARES/SKYWARN Team. I am 38 years old and I love being able to talk around the world on a piece of wire for an antenna and a 100 watt radio tranceiver. Ham radio operators help out in emergency situations like hurricanes, tornadoes, snowstorms ect. when power lines may not be working and phone lines may be knocked down.Ham radio was the only communication in the September 11th attacks for the first 2-3 days. We go in and set up emergency stations in places like hospitals, EMA buildings and red cross shelters and help communicate important things like patient condition , life and welfare traffic and keep headcounts of people who use the shelters when disiasters occur. All of this is volunteer work but it really pays off by making you feel really good about helping those in need.
Some of my favorite tv shows are: 24,mythbusters,future weapons ect.
