@BarbaraJD : I agree. But remember the catholic church grew out of the roman empire, and one big reason the roman empire declined was a lack of growth in the population. So I guess they decided not to repeat that mistake, come hell or high water.

Steve makes a great point. But the bottom line, from a pragmatic standpoint, is that if you are drunk, don't get in a car at all. Take a cab home. Because at that point, you can't determine how drunk the driver is, and the driver could wind up killing you in an accident.
