"Most people prefer to believe their leaders are just and fair even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because most people don't want to admit they don't have the courage to do anything about it. Most propaganda is not designed to fool the critical thinker but only to give moral cowards an excuse not to think at all"
--Michael Rivero
"The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men."
--Plato Greek author & philosopher in Athens (427 B.C. - 347 B.C.)
"A true patriot is a lover of his country who rebukes and does not excuse its sins".
--Frederick Douglas on REAL patriotism
"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed, and third, it is accepted as self-evident."
--German philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
--2 Timothy 1:7

About Me:
In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
Cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?'
Expediency asks the question, 'Is it politic?'
Vanity asks the question, 'Is it popular?'
But, conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?'
And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that it is right."
--Dr. Martin Luther King
"Never do anything against conscience even if the state demands it.
Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.
He who joyfully marches in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would suffice.
Nationalism is an infantile sickness. It is the measles of the human race"
--Albert Einstein
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
- Theodore Roosevelt
"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."
--Winston Churchill
"The likelihood of one individual being right increases in direct proportion to the intensity to which others are trying to prove him wrong."
-- Harry Segall
Noting with regret that "the armed forces are no longer representative of the people they serve," retired Admiral Stanley Arthur has expressed concern that "more and more, enlisted as well as officers are beginning to feel that they are special, better than the society they serve." Such tendencies, concluded Arthur, are "not healthy in an armed force serving a democracy."
"He who desires to reform the government of a state, and wishes to have it accepted and capable of maintaining itself to the satisfaction of everybody, must at least retain the semblance of old forms; so that it may seem to the people that there has been no change in the institutions, even though they are entirely different from the old ones. For the great majority of mankind are satisfied with appearances, as though they were realities, and are often even more influenced by the things that seem than those that are"
--Niccolo Machiavelli, Discourses on Livy, Chapter XXV

Narcissism is the #1 problem in the U.S. military and this cog-in-the-wheel militarism is inbred the day you join the bureaucracy. Its a fatal disease that creates subjectivity-driven incompetence and atrocities that permeates through at least 50% of the all volunteer/victim force/farce. The other half just want job security. Less than 1% are objective professionals who want to do the mission best to serve others and happen to like military things. Egomania drives the U.S. military from the lowest snobby private to the racketeering 4-star general and is our own fault for turning over our responsibility for our own common defense to the weakest members of our society to run/ruin military organizations for life. Military narcissism is a clear and present danger to the existence of America. combatreform.com/militarismsucks.htmAs retired Army Colonel Don Snider has concluded the corporate bureaucratic U.S. military that demands lemmings to blindly obey is not a PROFESSION where individual CONSCIENCE drives what we do to stay connected to reality and develop excellent practices; thus we lack a moral map of military expertise to do either nation-state wars or sub-national conflicts well. Here's a map of military excellence that understands war properly--don't say one does not exist: www.geocities.com/transformationunderfire,
Movies:
A Few Good Men--notice in the end the USMC destroys the men who were vindicated just out of spite. This is what happens when anyone puts their conscience in hock to any human organization for a bowl of ego porridge.
Music:
The U.S. military has failed its Soldiers and the American people to do the necessary DUE DILIGENCE to prepare for non-linear wars,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Due_diligenceDue diligence is a term used for a number of concepts involving either the performance of an investigation of a business or person, or the performance of an act with a certain standard of care.Troops in wheeled trucks getting constantly blown up by land mines on roads they cannot avoid who naively think all you need is marksmanship, PT and battle drills isn't cutting it on the non-linear battlefield dominated by high explosives
