Maybe BYU needs to get rid of their sports. Years of beating down their opponents has done nothing but bring hostility and resentment to the church. In the Mountain West they are EVERYBODY'S rivalry game. Usually you don't like your rival that much.

It's a small town so I'm sure he's still well known around there. The only locals that don't like him are probably the few Goths, emo and potheads that skipped out and went to smoke behind the school during the assembly.

BYU's move to independence is a calculated move. For starters the huge revenue boost from the ESPN contract compared to the MWC made it easy. BYU is also in a better position to negotiate with a possible BIG 12 invite in the future. Utah got shafted by the PAC 10 as they get no TV revenue year on...
