first get your self a small table so you are not bending over all the time to pick up tools. Second make the hot cut thinner it is very bulky to get good centered cuts. Also if you put a bend in your handle of the hot cut it will be easier to line up.

great point I said that it is not really flat if you want metal flat that you are hitting you use a flattener it is a top tool you place on a the metal and strike it with a hammer. a flattener is flat and can be used to take out the hammer marks.
