The original tune was written by Barry Taylor and Called - Bright Mohawk Valley, a very popular tune in New York at that time. it spread through out the South and the cowboys in the Red River Valley localized it and it became the tune we know as the Red River Valley today.
When I first heard this on the Chris Issak show I was absolutley blown away. My brother and I who is now deceased use to do this song together; I cant tell you the memories this brought back. Agreed not how it wat originally played, more than two fingers as well, With all due respects to Sir Paul anf this classic song, there are beter ways to play it which accomodates better control and flow of the song.Not bad though.
