i agree with this ive seen these kinds of things in theravada monasteries as well, the worshiping of deities..i think its helpful to some extent in that you believe in the deity or teacher your worshiping but its not true buddhism. some monasteries have worship with meditation also.

more people becoming monks or nuns would actually help the population to lower to a reasonable level because monks and nuns cannot have kids or engage in sexual activities. so in reality it would actually help alot but at the same time these people would have to have the same view of the buddhist...
