Noblesse.

Small spaces with loud sounds contrasted with whispers in big spaces. Instinct and impulse contrasted with intellect and after-thought. Clarity and form contrasted with mystery and subtext. Movement contrasted by stillness.
These are some of the the opposing forces that fuel the music and identity of Noblesse. A three-headed dragon, a trio of gentlemen residing in The Netherlands who create and perform music in the alternative rock genre.
2005. Israeli born singer, guitarist (and at the time professional dancer) Amos started looking for partners in crime, someone to help push the songs out of his bedroom and into the open. He found his accomplices in Shahar (bass) and Gideon (drums), both also Israeli. A brief jam session confirmed what they already knew: they were in fact a band.
Influences started flying all over the place; Nirvana clashed with Ray Charles, Sonic Youth bumped into Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin took PJ Harvey out for lunch. These often random bursts of energy and understated poetry were then tamed into songs with the help of producer Henk Koorn (Hallo Venray).
The result was a fresh yet slightly hectic indie sound, as heard on the bands debut EP Four Song Demo (2005) and first album Sound The Alarm (2006). Noblesse was grabbing attention and rave reviews all around for its energy, charm and natural showmanship. As per usual cliches and superlatives kept on flying around the boys, as well as comparisons to this or that band (Amos' voice is often compared to that of Brian Molko of Placebo). However, regardless of the frenzy it was clear: the band was slowly coming into their own. Playing countless gigs at small bars and festivals around the country and abroad, as well as opening for acts such as Keith Caputo and Silversun Pickups, they started discovering their sound, started trusting each other and started enjoying their differences.

The next chapter in the band's biography is one that took some time to write. For a while rumors circled that the band was done and over but behind closed doors a new concept was brewing; one that would combine Amos' dance background with the band's next album. A three-year process that started with a naive tryout at Today's Art festival 2007 culminated in a dance-concert show and a new album titled We Are Not Humanity, both presented in the Melkweg on March 12th 2010.
The new Noblesse sound, captured on the album by American producer Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor, ao), is thicker, deeper and full of the contrasts that make up this band. During the shows the movement of the dancers, spoken text and video constantly extend and challenge the music into new places, as was shown in the recent performances at Paradiso and P3.
With the We Are Not Humanity concept still alive and evolving, the band is going through its own changes as well: In the summer of 2010 drummer Gideon decided to leave the band and return to his native Israel. The three-headed dragon continues its journey with Kees Zuurbier (Easy Meat) as replacement drummer and once again a challenging array of options and contrasts is exposed, awaiting to be exploited and discovered.
