Actually, as I'm trying to recall (assuming it matters-ha). What I remember reading is that Gaye wanted him very much to play on his record. And sort of hunted him down, urgently, because of studio time or whatever, and found him, not sober, and he was able to put down the track.

@cleberinthearea There are still plenty of whites here--especially by the coast. There are a lot of Hispanics in Southern California and they are equally English only, bilingual, and Spanish speaking. They are part of California now--not Mexico.

@Salentino1 It would be interesting to do some sort of genetic analysis of Romanians. I'm sure there mostly indigenous Dacians/Thracians, and some Slav; but when you think about the Roman legions--those armies which finally subjugated the Dacians, must have been from throughout the empire.
