@duncan36 Not true. Not in 1971. It was later on, in the 80s, that the Japs had the advantage over us. These early 70s Japanese cars were rustbuckets.

@Jared1452 Yep, agree with you there! But the reason they made the decisions they did was because they simply chose to keep the brands that were making a profit AT THAT MOMENT IN TIME. Pontiac wasnt one of them unfortunately.

@skatepunkzero I couldnt have said it better myself. It's also pretty accurate. Post-1980, everything Chrysler made became front wheel drive (except for the Diplomat, Gran Fury, and Fifth Avenue)... there just wasn't anything desirable after that point in time except for those 3 cars.

@StoneCold75 I don't think the battle was really "over" at that point. More like the late 80s/early 90s it was over. The Big 3 gave the Japanese cars a good run for their money for quite a while. Ironically the price of gas later dropped, and the Japanese cars actually got bigger.

@lokrat2 That didn't happen until MUCH later, well after Chrysler's heyday. Chrysler Corp cars were almost always highly rated through the 60s and 70s. Sorry, I like GM cars, too, and Pontiacs in particular, but there were many fantastic Mopars.
