I do not subscribe to the Bering Strait Theory. As a Blackfoot person living in Blackfoot territory, I have been taught that this is where I originate from. We have creation stories, other stories, ceremonies and songs that teach us that we are of this land. The sacred sites, landmarks and landscapes, and the medicines we gather here connect us to this land--our home. For instance, there is a mountain we call Ninastako, which is more commonly known as Chief Mountain (Rocky Mountains Range). This is a sacred place for our people, and many still go there for ceremonial purposes. If we came from someplace else, like Asia, we would not have such a strong connection to the land and the knowledge it has provided for us all these generations back. We don't have stories that tell us we came from Asia. The newcomers want us to believe this theory; to believe that we are not of this land, so that he can justify the taking of the land from us the Indigenous Peoples--meaning [If you're not really from here --[from North, Central and South America]-- then you're not entitled to (resources)---Three Irons]. They reject our claim to this land, because they claimed it for themselves way back in 1492 and they also justify this through their doctrine called Terra Nullius: [Terra nullius is a Latin expression deriving from Roman Law meaning land belonging to no one, nobody's land, i.e. empty land, desolate.] Look to your own creation stories, ceremonies, songs, landscape, sacred sites, etc. and discover for yourself your Peoples' connection to the land, and you will have found your identity.--Niitsitapi07

"Look to your own creation stories, ceremonies, songs, landscape, sacred sites, etc. and discover for yourself your Peoples' connection to the land, and you will have found your identity.--Niitsitapi07" Very well said and you are so right - I have been researching my ancestors (Ukraine) - there was terrible genocides as well and others trying to wipe out the language and culture - and the love of the land - I have found out some amazing things in some way very much coincides with your own and other First Nations ways - perhaps why I fell in love with a First Nation's man - almost like a genetic link - enough about me BTW how are you? What is your take on the occupy movement? Cindy xo

. The Bering Strait Theory is more of a political view than a scientific view. <--- white ppl want us to believe this bullshit, and top of that whiteppl STILL call indigenous ppl as columbus did- indians-but white ppl just added paleo to indian.everyone knows the word indian can & IS STILL used as an insult.
