Hi Nick,

Maggie Smith and Judi Dench are two of my favourite actors but I just can't imagine Maggie Smith in 'Private Lives'! How long ago did you see it - she's far too old and always seems to play neurotics now.

Lucky you going to Paris recently. How much time did you spend on the South Bank?
By the way, have you been to Versailles? You couldn't keep me away.

All the best from Blighty.

hi balletnut

no sound - oh dear -- maybe Your tube is exercising it's copyright muscle. They often make the audio mute in cases like this. Which video has been given the silent treatment? thanks for the alert!

In fact I like different sopranos singing 'the four last songs' for different reasons. I grew up on one of Swarzkopf's recordings and heard her as a kid -- first impressions last fondly.

And more recently I heard Renee Fleming on a tour here a few years back -- I was totally knocked for six by the performance (can't think of a better way of saying it) -- and walked about after the concert reeling from emotion -- and I'm pretty stoic in concerts!

And I think I saw Jesse Norman do one of the songs at a concert -- I'll look at the program later -- I remember her being a tiny bit too musically 'stately' for my taste

Best and be in touch, nick

hi balletnut

yes, Somes is a princely Siegfried, exactly -- I regret only seeing him in supporting roles: Armand's father, Lord Capulet - though I did see him at a gala do a little bit of Daphnis and Cloe with Fonteyn -- moved the audience like you wouldn't believe!

I never saw Elvin on stage (:<) -- and I'm very happy for you to disagree -- it seems a healthy thing, don't you. Do you know if there's film of Elvin in this role?

Hope to hear from you again and that you'll disagree again!

Best, nick

hi willywonker31 - good to hear from you again - if you google search using '"I'm the same only more" Lennart Pasborg on Bruhn' yo u get to the IDFA website and they have the film listed as 'docs for sale'. not sure how you go about buying there - but tell us how you go if you have time. cheers

hi balletnut - yes, sadly, i'm having some difficulties sending responses to messages - when i try, the name of the recipient comes out as a series and letters and number - but i looked around online for a solution and found that if i go to the recipient's channel and click 'send message' just above the profile, i get back to my channel and my message response with the right recipient name. strange but having a solution is the thing. is there anything else that's happening with my comments? cheers and thanks for asking!

Hi Nick

Again many thanks for all your great uploads of the dancers of earlier times.

Would you have any idea how to get hold of the documentary "I'm the same only more" - Lennart Passburg (?) on Bruhn? I have tried to trace but without luck. I think it could be a fascinating insight into an exceptional talent.

Cheers.

Hi Nick,
Re. the F.Scott Fitzgerald & Zelda film, neither did I have any idea what they looked like. Actually I invented ones in my head (don't we with all books we read?) but my ideas of these two in my head were very vague.
Am I rambling or can you make sense of what I write?
Cheers from U.K.
