Recondo School was based on the British Army's 'Jungle Warfare School established in Malaya back in the 1950's. Some of the Recondo School instructors were either Australian or New Zealand SAS members.

Yes, the Kiwis did serve in Malaya. The NZSAS was in Malaya from 1955-57, 1 NZ Inf Regt was based at Taiping, Perak State from 1957-59 and 2 NZ Inf Regt took over from 1 NZ Inf Regt from 1959-61. There were also a number of Kiwi officers and WO's with the Fijian Bn from 1953-55.
