SMALL GOVERNMENT
I'm concerned about people's misunderstanding of "liberal views" vs. "conservative views" because I see that many are subscribing to mob mentality without thinking through what this mentality means (the true definition of liberal is now called "classic" or "laissez-faire" liberal, but no one knows about that these days).
Currently liberals want BIG government. Government control means more laws, limits, and control based on DOGMA which means LESS individual freedom and more EGOIST control (i.e., conspiracies, backstabbing, restrictions, repression, oppression). Current society is doing a very good job of redefining liberalism in the past century. This is scary because government and media are convincing people that the "right" option is to hand over our freedom to the government -- who is the root of all problems to begin with BUT who can DISGUISE this very well. I'm sure you've heard the adage, "The road to hell is paved in [seemingly] good intentions."
Well, please consider the fact that government got the United States into this current recession by over-regulating and controlling private industry. HOWEVER, they are trying to cover it up by blaming the banks and Walls Street. In reality there was no free market in the last few decades. The reason America (and the rest of the world) is in this economic mess is because the federal government during President Clinton's administration, through the community reinvestment act, forced banks to make loans to people who could not afford them (under the disguise of the "Humanitarian" plea that everyone -- even those not qualified -- should own a home. Perhaps it should have been called the "entitlement act?").
Then the government implicitly backed up these loans through Freddie and Fannie (both businesses chartered by Congress in 1968 as GOVERNMENT-sponsored enterprises AND the first businesses to go down in the recession). The government claimed to do this so there was no "risk" to business when "securitizing" and trading the loans. However, this was truly in the interest of government control and profit. Now the government is "bailing out" these businesses who made the bad loans (under the federal government's threat) and, in effect, buying more power by owning "private" business (socialism).
The current trend and redefinition of liberalism by media/government/society is like Cult persuasion and propaganda. Government laws and control should never be confused with freedom. Control of any kind is oppression of freedom and that is what the current liberal agenda is. The twenty-first-century liberal agenda is to use media and public schools (thus most people under age thirty believe socialism is better than capitalism because they do not receive unbiased education) to convince the people that we cannot fend for ourselves and need the government to fend for us (also called "Nanny State"). This is tyranny disguised as humanitarian aid and an insult to our individual freedom for the pursuit of happiness and success. What makes this worse is that "liberal" people are so identifying with this dogma that they are intolerant of other points of view and this is in direct opposition to the true meaning of "liberal."
True freedom is expressed in the diminishing views of the American constitution and the founding fathers but we are losing sight of this as a nation due to the brainwashing of people by government. BOTH Republican and Democratic parties are guilty of this. When referring to government I make no distinction between the parties becuase BOTH seek control. There is only ONE way to take back the power of the people and that is INSIST on SMALL government no matter what party is in office.
Trying to control people will always fail. I believe in the constitution. I believe in individual freedom created by small government and free market. I believe in the enlightenment of our forefathers.
