The first one in Paris was not De Gaulle but Leclerc (I think you have the wrong one) and the 2nd French tanks division who advanced towards Paris which was already in a state of insurrection, but not enough to fight the 20.000 German soldiers posted there.

This has always been one of my favourite films. I agree that we could do without the journalist and his wife story, but the rest is brilliant.
