About Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wekiu
Nā Lei Hulu I Ka Wēkiu is a dynamic Hawaiian dance company based in San Francisco. Led by hula master Patrick Makuakāne, the group's 40 male and female dancers present hula as a visually captivating, theatrical experience. The non-profit organization, founded in 1985, is committed to teaching and preserving the Hawaiian culture through hula.
The group's trademark style, hula mua, is unique. Meaning "hula that pushes forward," the style blends traditional movements with non-Hawaiian music.
Nā Lei Hulu performs regularly in San Francisco, and has taken its show on the road to such places as New York's Lincoln Center, Honolulu's Hawai'i Theatre, Long Beach's Carpenter Center, and New Orleans' House of Blues.
